Since 2007, Grodan has invited crop consultants, scientists, partners, and other stakeholders from all over the world to meet at the Green Expert Platform. This fruitful platform is a true knowledge exchange forum, where Grodan tests and challenges industries’ believes and opinions.
Grodan hosted the Green Expert Platform in and around Delft on June 14th, 2022. Following a two-year pause due to the covid situation, the Green Expert Platform reunited horticulture experts, crop consultants, and researchers to discuss the potential of new technologies and innovations in the industry.
The goal of this event is to exchange knowledge and challenge key horticultural companies to discuss how to make efficient, high-tech greenhouse production a reality. The challenges that growers face are numerous; the purpose of all these stakeholders is to join forces and find solutions to these challenges.
“It was exciting to be a part of an event that brought together experts from all around the world to discuss the future of horticulture by sharing their challenges and suggesting solutions. It is an inspirational event that can only promise a lot for the horticultural sector.”
Emmanouela Alexopoulou, Technical Communications Manager at Grodan.
This year, GEP delegates visited the BASF Vegetable Seeds Demonstration Greenhouse in the morning. There our hosts, the Production Development Specialists of BASF, introduced the Hydroponic Lettuce in Green Automation moving gutters, the Cherry tomato cv Adorion under LED lights and the high wire cucumber cv High Power under LED lights topics.
In the afternoon various topics were discussed, focused on technological solutions to growers' problems.
Growers are challenged to minimise the use of fossil fuels for heating greenhouses, to lower the CO2-footprint of produce sustainably. The use of geothermal energy can provide many possibilities in renewable heating and cooling for greenhouses. Martin van der Hout from Love Geothermal Energy highlighted during GEP 2022 different geothermal-greenhouse configurations from around the globe, also in relation to climate and water management.
There is abundance of plant sensors in the market, each sensor company offers partial solutions for plant monitoring, and it is challenging to find the best set of sensors for plant growth monitoring.
How can the technological advancements support crop consultancy? Andris Stuks from Synergy Solutions shared his views with us during GEP 2022.
Growers are curious about the future trends in horticulture. Marcel Huibers, Scientist Product Development from BASF shared his views about the new trends in high wire cucumber cultivation. Data driven growing is the future for cucumber- How we can talk with the plant?.
On the 13th of November 2019 fifty delegates from all over the world gathered in Delft and Bleiswijk to share and learn.
