Designed to Grow

More than 50 years ago, we noticed a tiny plant growing in a piece of abandoned stone wool on a building site. Just as it's designed to do, nature had found a way to grow. And it inspired us to design a system to support it – a smarter, soilless way of growing that we evolve, explore and refine continuously. A system that promises high yields of consistent, high-quality fresh food and medicinal crops to feed and treat the world's growing population.

Experts reflect on stone wool lettuce trials in Belgium: “The use of stone wool supports higher-quality, cleaner and more efficient hydroponic lettuce cultivation”

Grodan has recently completed the first in a series of research trials at Proefstation voor de Groenteteelt in Belgium to determine the optimal electrical conductivity (EC) levels for hydroponic lettuces when grown in stone wool blocks. In this article, two experts reflect on the findings, which show that stone wool growing media can help high-tech lettuce growers to achieve high-quality, uniform and dependable results more cleanly and efficiently than on peat.
